What Can You Create?

A year seen through twelve short panels

Assign a month to each small region and record only the information that fits its purpose. A year overview can show milestones or priorities without carrying every daily entry. Give the year a prominent heading so the panel names do not imply a calendar that was never specified.

A sequence of twelve review prompts

Use numbered panels for stages of a course, project, or reading plan instead of months. State what one panel represents and write a brief prompt inside it. Neutral points support alignment while the chosen sequence and its interpretation remain part of the authored worksheet.

A filed planning reference

Keep the broad overview beside separate detailed notes. Letter stock suits a document built around an 8.5 by 11-inch page, while the point gap remains five millimeters. Reserve the folder's binding space independently from the panel grid and retain a dated annotated copy.

Why Users Love This Tool

A subdued lattice beneath a labeled overview

The starting circles are #525252, one point in diameter, at 5mm center spacing. They align the panel boundaries without supplying continuous rules across the page. Try a short heading inside one region before finalizing the guide treatment. The useful emphasis depends on the actual annotations, rather than on the screen appearance alone.

Letter capacity recorded in both counting units

Portrait Letter measures 215.9×279.4 mm215.9 \times 279.4\,\mathrm{mm}. With linked 12mm margins, the original lattice has 39 dot columns and 52 rows, totaling 2,028 marks. Those provide 38 horizontal and 51 vertical center intervals. The yearly arrangement uses thirty-four by thirty-eight intervals, leaving space for deliberate placement rather than filling the whole field.

Perfect For

Planners choosing annual priorities

Write a small number of important items inside each period and leave detailed records in another document. A shared panel convention helps compare the year without forcing every month into a daily tracker. State how unfinished or moved items will be indicated.

Educators organizing a course sequence

Assign the twelve regions to named teaching stages and place a review question in each. The point template keeps the boxes aligned, but the course order and learning content are authored separately. A numbered key prevents a small panel from carrying an unexplained abbreviation.

Readers keeping a compact record

Use a panel for a reading period, theme, or book grouping. Write the convention beside the overview and keep full titles elsewhere if the fifty-millimeter panel width is too short. The sheet can index your notes without replacing their fuller context.

Worked overview: three columns by four rows

Make each panel ten intervals wide and eight high, giving 50×40 mm50 \times 40\,\mathrm{mm} between its boundary centers. Three panel columns need thirty intervals plus two two-interval gutters, for thirty-four intervals or 170mm total. Four panel rows need thirty-two intervals plus three two-interval gutters, for thirty-eight intervals or 190mm. Start at dot column 2 and row 4; the arrangement ends at column 36 and row 42, inside the original 38×5138 \times 51 interval field. The twelve panel interiors each cover eighty interval squares, giving 960 across the panels. Gutters are outside those interiors. Name the panels as months, stages, or another explicit sequence, and write the year or sequence title above them. The export adds neither the twelve outlines nor their labels.

How It Works

How it works in three quick steps.

1

Decide what each panel represents

Write the overview title and choose its twelve labels. Determine which short entries belong inside the fifty-by-forty-millimeter example panels. Avoid mixing a month label and a course-stage label without explaining the sequence in a visible key.

2

Count every separator before placing the grid

Add panel widths and inter-panel gutters in each direction. Locate the resulting thirty-four-by-thirty-eight interval arrangement within the original field. Test one complete labeled panel, then adjust point contrast or diameter around the text it will actually hold.

3

Save the overview and its background

Export current Letter settings and preserve full-page placement while adding the panels. Measure ten center gaps as fifty millimeters on the finished copy. Retain the annotated overview with its date, sequence convention, and settings address for future revisions.

Download & Print

PDF for the Letter overview master

The original PDF uses an 8.5×118.5 \times 11-inch page, equivalent to 215.9×279.4 mm215.9 \times 279.4\,\mathrm{mm}. Match that stock and preserve Actual Size when keeping the point interval. Inspect a panel label and a measured gutter after adding the overview in another application.

PNG for a planning document

The complete portrait raster is 2550×33002550 \times 3300 pixels at nominal 300 DPI. Keep the built-in border space and Letter proportions during image placement. An automatic fit to the receiving document's text area can change the panel dimensions, so check the annotated result.

SVG for editable period labels

Layer the twelve outlines and headings above the vector points while retaining the physical Letter boundary. A vector master can keep background and labels separate during annual updates. Save those additions in the composed file, since the background address does not retain them.

Check the finished paper

  1. Confirm Letter stock and the full 8.5 by 11-inch page extent before printing the overview master.
  2. Use 100% or Actual Size for the five-millimeter center gap and verify ten gaps between eleven positions.
  3. Check both two-interval gutters as ten millimeters and confirm that the last panel ends within its planned field.
  4. Read the year, panel sequence, and entry convention on a final copy before reusing the sheet for planning.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a twelve-panel page automatically contain a dated calendar?
The background has no month headings, dates, weekday calculations, or event entries. You add twelve regions and decide what they represent. A month overview can hold priorities or milestones, while a full daily calendar needs its own date and weekday layout. Write the year and purpose beside the panels. A person receiving the settings address obtains the blank point lattice rather than the completed calendar or overview.
Why are the overview's gutters included in its outside dimensions?
Three ten-interval panel widths total thirty intervals. Two gutters of two intervals each add four, making thirty-four horizontally. Four eight-interval heights total thirty-two; three two-interval gutters add six, making thirty-eight vertically. Ignoring those separators would underestimate the space occupied by the arrangement. The panel interiors and the full layout are therefore different extents, and both are useful when positioning headings and notes around the grid.
How does Letter differ from A4 for this point field?
Letter is 215.9 by 279.4mm, whereas A4 is 210 by 297mm. With this template's original point treatment and borders, Letter provides thirty-eight horizontal and fifty-one vertical center intervals. Paper width and height therefore affect the layout capacity independently. A background intended for Letter should be exported for Letter before composition rather than silently reduced or stretched from a differently sized sheet to fit the same folder.
Can a larger left border protect the binding area?
You can unlink the margins and increase only the left inset before exporting another background. That changes where the first point begins and reduces the horizontal room available to the overview. Recount the current point columns and place the thirty-four-interval arrangement deliberately; the original capacity does not describe every border edit. Check the actual folder or binding process and retain the edited configuration with the finished overview.
What do the 960 panel squares measure?
Each example panel is ten intervals by eight intervals, giving eighty interval squares. Twelve panels therefore contain 960 such squares in their combined interiors. This is a geometric count of the chosen paper regions, not a count of dates, tasks, entries, or printed dots. The two-interval gutters are excluded from that total. Keep the intended planning unit explicit so the panel area is not mistaken for recorded activity.

About This Tool

Letter five-millimeter gray dot paper offers a neutral reference for an overview composed of twelve deliberately named regions. A panel might represent a month, a teaching stage, or another period, but its meaning should be stated before short entries are written inside it. The page is useful as an index to fuller records because its structure keeps each period identifiable without requiring every detail to fit into the small panel.

The worked arrangement separates the sizes of the panel interiors from the spaces around them. Twelve identical interiors occupy a three-by-four array, while five distinct gutter runs contribute to its complete width and height. Placing the arrangement at specific dot indices leaves room for an overview title and surrounding context. Endpoint positions provide the measurement reference, and the intervals between them provide the panel spans. Keeping these counts distinct avoids adding an accidental extra row or column.

The physical Letter page and the authored overview travel together through the document workflow. Binding choices may change an inset; importing a raster may change the placement size; a yearly revision may change headings while leaving the points intact. Check the completed master rather than only its blank background, then retain the annotated file beside the selected settings address. The resulting pair preserves a reproducible point layer and the year, sequence, and entry conventions that make the small panels understandable later.
